“That he not busy being born is busy dying.”
BOB DYLAN

Our approach

In September of 2002 a child was born, his older sister was two years old. Within a week this law practice was formed. Probably a crazy idea, but it felt right. Today we represent many of the largest entities in our part of the GTA. And just as important, some of the smallest. It really doesn’t matter to us; they all receive the same promise:

1

YOU FIRST. YOU ONLY.

Your best interest is our best interest. Our advice is what we would do if we were you in your situation. We know the law, but we also need to understand you.

2

WITH YOU ALL THE WAY.

No one likes being in the dark. We know we don’t. So, we’ll keep you informed, all the time. If you call us, we answer, or get back to you as soon as we can. It’s common decency.

3

YOU CARE. WE CARE.

We like sleeping, especially at night after a good day’s work. To do that, we have to know we not only did our best, but provided the best advise possible.

“If you can dream it, you can do it. Always remember that this whole thing was started by a mouse.”
WALT DISNEY

Business is a contact sport. Consider this:

96% of businesses fail within 10 years. The hardest thing to do in sports is hit a baseball. Yet, even the worst hitters have an average above a hundred, three times better than this business stat. Despite the odds, every year a fresh crop of would-be captains of capitalism take to the ice, determined to be the next big thing. It’s exciting, the entrepreneurial spirit is the highest octane that fuels our economy.

Our role? When that flying elbow is coming at you, when that 100-mph fastball is barreling towards your chin, when that 275-pound linebacker launches himself at your knees, we make sure you get through it. You see the risk before it lands, we help you use your skill to evade and accelerate through the pressure. That’s our role. To make sure you don’t get derailed on your quest to change how the game is played.

“Impossible is not a fact. It’s an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It’s a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”
MUHAMMAD ALI

Areas of focus

It’s been said it’s not what you do, it’s how you do it. We agree. Listen carefully. Research deeply, unrelentingly. Prepare, prepare, prepare. Not all matters are complex, but the process of protecting you never changes.

1

CORPORATE, COMMERCIAL

If you go swimming, you’re going to get wet. There is no way around it. Likewise, with being in business. The law is part of the gig. Incorporating, licensing, regulations, mergers, acquisitions, restructuring, management decisions, joint ventures, strategic alliances, competition, financing, employment. We’ll do our best to keep you dry.

2

LITIGATION & CONSTRUCTION LAW

Litigation, once it reaches court, is a serious, gut wrenching affair. It’s not for the faint of heart. And it’s expensive. We try hard to avoid this path, seeking to negotiate a positive settlement for you, to avoid this burden. At the same time, we know that such an outcome is only possible from a position of strength. Simply, we follow this advice; don’t hit at all if it is honourably possible to avoid hitting, but never hit soft.

3

SUCCESSION & ESTATE MATTERS

Note the root word of the word succession; success. That’s our approach when it comes to planning and preparing you and your business when you retire. Making sure your real-life plans are not exposed to unnecessary or avoidable hazards.

4

MEDIATION

Mediation is a voluntary process. Just like any sport, the true influencers of the result are the players, not the referees or the coaches. So, as the players in this endeavor, for the mediation to be effective, we request that you be engaged, keep an open mind, listen and have a respectful voice. We, as the coaches and referees, will bring an understanding of the facts/law, an ability to help generate and evaluate paths to resolution, a discipline to drive the proceedings and a methodology that leads to a constructive outcome acceptable to the parties.

BRUCE LEE

The Team

Robust grass endures mighty winds. William Shakespeare wrote that more than 400 years ago. It’s about endurance and toughness. But, at the same time, also about humility, and service. That’s how we like to see ourselves.
